Supporting a Learner Experiencing Anxiety to Access GCSE Examinations

Re-engagement & Confidence

Details have been anonymised to protect the learner’s privacy.

The Challenge

A GCSE-aged learner was experiencing significant anxiety that was affecting their ability to engage confidently with education and creating barriers around sitting their examinations.

Our Approach

Quality in Tutoring provided personalised tuition built around the learner's individual needs. Rather than focusing solely on curriculum coverage, the tutor prioritised developing a positive and trusting learning relationship.

Teaching was adapted to the learner's pace and level of confidence, with time taken to understand how they responded to tuition and to tailor learning accordingly.

The Impact

The learner responded positively to the individualised provision and was ultimately able to sit their GCSE examinations.

This was particularly significant given the anxiety-related barriers they had experienced.

Parent Feedback

“We are very happy with the skilled and relational tutoring that [our child] is receiving and how positively he is responding to tuition. Due to his anxiety he was able to sit the exams and this is due to your dedication and time you took to tailor his work to his needs.”

What This Demonstrates

  • Personalised tuition
  • Re-engagement
  • Relationship-based practice
  • Responsive teaching
  • Supporting access to education
Personalised Educational Support for a Looked-After Young Person

Looked-After Children & Vulnerable Learners

Details have been anonymised to protect the learner’s privacy.

The Challenge

Quality in Tutoring was commissioned to provide educational support for a looked-after young person requiring additional tuition outside their usual educational provision.

The learner required structured academic support alongside a consistent approach to engagement and communication between the professionals involved in their education.

Our Approach

Quality in Tutoring arranged individual tuition with clear scheduling and oversight of the provision.

The learner's programme was structured around their educational needs, with sessions used to provide targeted academic support.

Attendance and engagement were monitored and communication maintained with the relevant adults and education professionals supporting the learner.

Where sessions were missed or concerns arose around engagement, Quality in Tutoring followed up rather than treating non-attendance simply as an administrative absence.

The Impact

The provision gave the learner access to structured, individualised learning alongside their wider education arrangements and provided those responsible for the learner's education with greater visibility of attendance, engagement and tuition activity.

The experience has informed Quality in Tutoring's wider approach to working with looked-after and vulnerable learners, including clear attendance procedures, regular reporting and communication with the professionals surrounding the child.

What This Demonstrates

  • LAC provision
  • Multi-agency communication
  • Attendance monitoring
  • Individualised learning
  • Educational continuity
Adapting Tuition Around SEND and Individual Learning Needs

SEND & Neurodiversity

Details have been anonymised to protect the learner’s privacy.

The Challenge

Quality in Tutoring supports learners with SEND and neurodivergent profiles whose individual learning needs can make standardised tuition approaches unsuitable.

Families have particularly valued provision that considers the learner as an individual rather than simply matching them according to subject and year group.

Our Approach

Tutor matching forms an important part of the process.

Quality in Tutoring considers the learner's needs when identifying an appropriate tutor and reviews the arrangement where the match is not working as intended.

Teaching can then be adapted through pace, communication, resources and the structure of sessions according to the individual learner.

The Impact

Independent parent feedback has specifically highlighted this individualised approach and responsiveness.

Parent Feedback

“They were really able to match my daughter to tutors that would support her needs and allow her to achieve her full potential. Time and care was taken in onboarding and if something didn't quite fit then the manager would suggest alternatives really quickly. It is a very holistic approach to tutoring. Fully recommend!”

Additional independent feedback has described Quality in Tutoring as supporting children with SEN and learners across different ability levels.

The evidence demonstrates particularly strong satisfaction with QT's responsiveness, tutor matching and individualised approach rather than a quantified academic outcome.

What This Demonstrates

  • SEND-aware practice
  • Tutor matching
  • Adaptability
  • Parent partnership
  • Individualised provision
Building Engagement Through Positive Tutor–Learner Relationships

Vulnerable Learners & Engagement

Details have been anonymised to protect the learner’s privacy.

The Challenge

For some learners referred for additional educational support, successful tuition depends on more than curriculum knowledge.

Engagement, trust and the quality of the relationship with the tutor can determine whether a learner meaningfully participates.

This is particularly relevant to Quality in Tutoring's work with vulnerable learners and young people who may already have experienced disruption to their education.

Our Approach

Quality in Tutoring places emphasis on appropriate tutor matching, consistency and relationship-based teaching.

Tutors are expected to create structured learning environments while adapting delivery to the learner's starting point and level of engagement.

Quality in Tutoring also maintains communication and oversight rather than leaving the tutor–learner relationship unsupported.

The Impact

Feedback received from an education client provides independent evidence of the effectiveness of this approach.

Client Feedback

“High quality and swift customer service. Feedback from pupils is great as tutors are able to build positive relationships with our pupils and deliver great sessions.”

This feedback reflects not simply satisfaction with administration, but positive feedback concerning the pupils receiving the provision.

What This Demonstrates

  • Positive relationships
  • Learner engagement
  • Education-client satisfaction
  • Quality assurance
  • Responsive service
